This book is not for Bobby.

Bobby was a sight to behold—a six-foot-three adonis with movie-star good looks, a million-dollar smile, and a fantastic head of hair. He walked into my gym on his first day, already lean and muscular. He was strong, athletically gifted, and a hell of a nice guy (which just made you want to hate him more). The guys wanted to be him, and the women wanted to… well, you get it.

At first glance, I was convinced Bobby was using steroids, but when he started asking questions about basic supplements like whey protein and creatine, I realized there was no way this impressive specimen had crossed over to the dark, drug-laden underbelly of the fitness world.

No, Bobby was just a lucky outlier—a clear winner of the genetic lottery. He quickly ascended to the top spot on our gym’s record board and seemed to maintain his ripped physique on a steady diet of mostly burritos.

Clients like Bobby make coaches like me look a lot smarter than we are. They respond well to just about anything you throw at them. Even the most poorly conceived training program will produce impressive results for these guys, and, if you’re lucky enough to get one in your gym, they’re quite fun to work with.

But this book isn’t for Bobby or any of the other freaks out there like him—they don’t need my help. The gods have already blessed them with the favorable genetics, natural talents, and good looks to move confidently through the world (and get themselves laid whenever they want). Bobby and all his biologically-blessed bros will be just fine. The rest of us have work to do.

“What should the average guy do to get in awesome shape?”

I’ve spent over 20 years trying to answer this simple question. I’ve made every mistake, tried every training program, fallen for every fad diet, and choked down every useless supplement. After years of testing, tweaking, revising, and refining, I developed a simple, effective, repeatable process for building a great physique.

Radically Simple Strength distills everything I’ve learned over more than two decades as a lifter, coach, and gym owner into a comprehensive, practical approach to packing on muscle mass, shedding body fat, and improving physical (and mental) strength while minimizing the risk of injury.

This isn't just a bunch of theories and hypotheses. Every page of Radically Simple Strength is packed with practical principles that have been proven to work in the gym with real clients.

So whether you’ve never touched a barbell or you’re an experienced lifter frustrated by a lack of progress, Radically Simple Strength will eliminate the guesswork and analysis paralysis and show you exactly what to do every time you step into the gym or the kitchen to get strong and look strong.

A proven path to progress.

But hold on, let me kick you the real deal.

Is this program easy? Nope.

Is it boring and repetitive? Kind of.

Will it make you look like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime? Doubtful.

Does it work? Hell yes, it does!

This book probably won’t help you become the next World’s Strongest Man or give you the physique of a ‘roided-up bodybuilder. What I can promise is that, if you do the program and stick to the diet, you’ll look and feel a hell of a lot better than you do right now.

If I wanted to sell more books, I would make lofty claims about this being “the most revolutionary training program ever created.” Well, it’s not, and that’s a good thing.

Despite what you may have heard from the army of influencer bros on social media, any seasoned fitness pro will tell you the recipe for success is to pick a simple plan and work the hell out of it for as long as possible. There’s no “secret hack,” “one weird trick,” or “must-do exercise you’ve never heard of” that will shortcut the process. Real results come from consistency, not novelty.

There’s nothing new or “revolutionary” about the programs and strategies in this book. The general principles have been tried, tested, and passed down over decades from one strong guy to the next. Radically Simple Strength is the best of basics, cultivated and curated, with only the most essential strategies, tools, and tactics you need to achieve your strength and body-composition goals.

The program has worked for countless others, and it will work for you.

Best body. Best life.

Improving the way you look and feel isn’t a vain, superficial, or egotistical pursuit…

And it damn sure doesn’t make you “toxic.” Strong men are healthier, have a better quality of life, and are a lot more useful to others. Getting in awesome shape will improve just about every aspect of your life, including your confidence, self-image, sex drive, energy level, mood, and motivation to go after the things you want.

This isn’t just about lifting weights and getting “jacked,” it’s about challenging yourself and learning to do things that are hard. Building muscle, losing fat, and getting strong are difficult tasks. If that stuff was easy, every dude you know would have a 500lb deadlift and six-pack abs, and I wouldn’t have had to write this book. But making the choice to do what is necessary to create real change and transform your physique will turn you into a tougher, more capable, more resilient dude.

So if you’re finally ready to stop making excuses start leveling up your life, I’m excited to show you how. The process is Radically Simple, but it’s up to you to take the first step.

  • Absolutely not. This book will prepare you to step into the gym for the very first time and guide you through each phase of your training career.

  • Not much. A basic barbell, bench, and some weights will allow you to do all of the exercises in the program. A complete list of recommended equipment is included with the book.

  • It’s up to you. The programs included have two-, three-, and four-day variations to fit any schedule.

  • The book includes links to a video library with instructions and demonstrations for each exercise. If you feel like you want more personalized attention, however, there are options in the Coaching section of this site.

  • There are only a few recipes you need to know, and each one only takes between 3–10 minutes to make. You can also prepare multiple servings of each meal in advance to cut down on your time in the kitchen. After a week or two, you’ll be a meal-prep pro.

  • Nope! The recipes and meal plans provided eliminate the need to count calories or track your food intake. Just follow the plan, and you’ll get the results you want.

  • There’s ZERO cardio in this program. Fat loss is all about diet. That being said, if you love to run, hike, swim, cycle, etc., you can absolutely incorporate that, but it’s not necessary to get lean.

  • Yes. The training and nutrition strategies will work for men of all ages. If you’re over 55, I recommend adjusting the program so you’re training two days per week to allow for adequate rest. There are instructions in the book on how to do this.

  • Certainly, you’ll just need to replace the protein source in some of the meals. Each meal in the nutrition program contains about 50-60 grams of protein. As long as you substitute the meat for another plant-based source that provides a similar amount of protein, you’ll be fine.

  • Customize the meals to suit your preferences. The meals in Radically Simple Strength are designed for guys that don’t want to think about what to eat. They are simple, inexpensive, and easy to prepare. If you just want to check the box that says, “I ate enough of the right stuff to support my training goals,” then eat the meals as written, and you’ll be covering your bases. That being said, I fully expect readers to improve upon my recipes with their own creations. The meals in the book are just a guide. If you understand the framework and the logic behind the meal structure, you can absolutely build your own recipes that work better for you. And if you come up with something great, tell us about it!
